ACCESS CONTROL AND GATEHOUSE SECURITY

Access control and gatehouse security is the staffed checkpoint at a property’s primary entry — the human layer that turns a gate from a physical barrier into an actual control point. 247 Private Security staffs gatehouse and access-control posts at gated communities, corporate campuses, residential estates, and industrial sites across Los Angeles, with credential verification, visitor logging, vehicle screening, and continuous dispatch supervision.

What an access control gatehouse officer does

A staffed gatehouse turns your gate from a passive barrier into an active control point. The officer’s job is to verify who enters, log who comes and goes, deny unauthorized access, and respond when something unexpected arrives at the gate. Specifically:

  • Resident / employee verification against your access list — never wave anyone through without ID confirmation
  • Visitor logging — name, time in, who they are visiting, vehicle and plate, time out
  • Vendor + delivery screening — confirm the delivery is expected, the company is on your approved-vendor list, the driver matches the documentation
  • Vehicle inspection when post orders require it (loading dock entry, sensitive sites)
  • Denial protocol — calmly turn away anyone not on the access list, escalate to dispatch + property contact when needed
  • Emergency vehicle protocols — open immediately for marked emergency vehicles (LAFD, LAPD, ambulance), document and notify property contact
  • After-hours access — extended verification protocols for residents/employees arriving after established hours

What’s included in our access control service

  • Uniformed officer (armed or unarmed per your post-order spec) at the gatehouse during defined shift hours
  • Written access list maintained jointly with you — residents, employees, regular vendors, regular visitors, no-entry list
  • Visitor log kept on a tablet or paper as you prefer; daily log emailed to your property manager
  • Documented denial protocol — what to say, who to call, how to escalate, when to call LAPD
  • 24/7 dispatch backup — officer in continuous radio contact with our supervisor for any escalation
  • Vehicle / pedestrian counts for traffic analysis and HOA board reporting
  • Integration with existing systems — if you have card readers, intercom, LPR cameras, or monitor screens, our officer operates them per your protocol

Where gatehouse security works best

  • Gated residential communities — primary residents-and-guests gate control
  • Luxury estates with vendor / staff traffic that needs filtering
  • Corporate campuses with employee-and-visitor traffic during business hours
  • Industrial sites with delivery, contractor, and vendor traffic
  • Construction sites with multi-contractor entry during active phases
  • Movie / production lots with credentials-checked talent and crew access
  • Sensitive medical / research facilities with restricted-access requirements

How it works

  1. 01

    Property Walkthrough

A duty supervisor walks your gatehouse with you — assesses access patterns, current technology (card readers, LPR, intercom), known problem zones, and any specific protocols required.

  2. 02

    Access List + Post Orders

Joint access list drafted: residents/employees, approved vendors, regular visitors, no-entry list. Written post orders cover verification protocol, denial script, escalation tree, emergency-vehicle handling.

  3. 03

    Officer Selection + Briefing

Officers matched to post — language requirements for resident demographics, technology familiarity for card-reader or LPR systems, customer-service tone for residential vs. industrial settings.

  4. 04

    Active Gate Coverage

Officer at post during defined hours, verifying access, logging visitors and vehicles, denying or escalating unauthorized attempts. Continuous radio contact with dispatch.

  5. 05

    Daily Log Delivery

Daily visitor log + traffic count + any incidents emailed to your property manager or HOA contact. Monthly review meeting to refine the access list and protocols based on patterns observed.

FAQ

Common questions

Can your gatehouse officers operate our existing card readers and gate systems?

Yes. Our officers are trained on standard access-control hardware (Honeywell, Lenel, S2, AMAG, Brivo, Verkada) and license-plate-reader systems. During the property walkthrough we identify your specific systems and brief the assigned officer before deployment.

What does the officer do when someone unauthorized shows up?

Officer calmly identifies them, asks for the resident/business they are visiting, and contacts that party for confirmation. If access cannot be verified, officer denies entry with a written denial script and escalates to dispatch + property contact. If the person becomes aggressive or refuses to leave, LAPD is called. Officers do not physically engage except in self-defense.

Should gatehouse officers be armed or unarmed?

Most gatehouse posts are unarmed — the officer is a verifier and documenter, not an enforcer. Armed gatehouse coverage is recommended only for properties with credible threats, principal protection requirements, or industrial sites where the officer may need to handle aggressive trespassers in a high-stakes environment.

How do you handle deliveries and vendors?

During setup we build your approved-vendor list (utility companies, regular cleaning, landscaping, mail carriers, food delivery if approved). When a delivery arrives, officer confirms the company is on the list, checks the driver matches the documentation, logs the entry. Unapproved vendors are denied or escalated to property management depending on your protocol.

How much does gatehouse security cost?

Pricing depends on shift hours and whether the post is armed. Unarmed single-shift coverage (e.g. 6am–10pm) runs roughly $8,000–$12,000 per month. 24/7 unarmed gatehouse coverage runs $20,000–$28,000 per month. Armed posts run higher. Request a quote for a property-specific number.

Can you integrate with our visitor-management software?

Yes. We work with Envoy, Proxyclick, Brivo Visitor, and similar visitor-management systems. Officer uses the tablet at the gate to log visitors directly into your system per your existing workflow. If you do not have a system, we use a simple shared spreadsheet or paper log per your preference.
